Viktoria Vidali, Executive Director
Curriculum Vitae

The UNECO team is also engaged in a movement to educate the public about the importance of Al Gore's environmental ideas first outlined in his book: Earth in the Balance.

1998-2000--The UNECO team organized community gardens on the Big Island of Hawaii to promote self-sustainability and supported the protection of the Hawaiian Island coral reef protection sponsored by President Clinton and VP Al Gore.

In 1992 to 1997--Aldo and Viktoria were supporting activists for the successful San Diego County Forest Conservation Initiative that won a voters' mandate to protect the Cleveland National Forest.

1987 to 1992--Back in California after a three-year Eastern Pacific sailing voyage, Aldo and Viktoria dedicated themselves to environmental and cultural research and to writing.

1984 to 1987--Aldo, Viktoria, and their son Orlando Francesco sailed 40,000 nautical miles in their self-built ketch "Arcana" on a voyage of oceanic ecological and social research.

They explored the west coast of Baja California, Sea of Cortez, Marquesas Islands, Tuamotus Archipelago, Society Islands, and sailed as far west as Bora-Bora.

The Vidalis visited American and Western Samoa, sailed north to Hawai'ian Islands, then ventured further north toward the Alaskan coast, and with the easterlies east to the Northwest coast of the U.S.

They dropped anchor in the Puget Sound to stay a while in Port Townsend. In 1987 their second son Lorenzo Matteo was born. The Arcana then traveled south along the California coast, to rest in San Diego Bay.

1980 to 1984--Aldo and Viktoria created a special citizen's land leasing program that prevented Big Oil from drilling in the beautiful Denali Wilderness of Alaska.

1978--Participated in the successful Hawaiian environmental campaign to save Nukoli'i on the Island of Kaua'i, Hawai'i.

1970-1978--Built a 57ft. sailing ketch and began sea trials from Point Conception to the coast of Baja California.

1964 to 1970--Aldo authored and directed documentary films, among which was "Sunset at Dawn," one of the first environmental films warning the international community of ecological peril ahead.

1960 to 1963--Aldo was second unit director of the feature documentary, "Good-bye Africa," covering the devastation of the continent, including the military campaign in the Congo (Zaire), massacres of Zanzibar, revolt of the King Africa Rifles in Dar es Saalam, shameful exploitation of black Africans in South Africa's gold and diamond mines, and brutality of Soweto in the dark days of apartheid. In Italy and Texas, Aldo founded and became President of "Autori Associati" and "Texitalia," which contracted and collaborated with Italian film celebrities Michelangelo Antonioni, Monica Vitti, Luchino Visconti, and Federico Fellini. These production companies were funded by a Texas oil consortium.

1948 to 1960--Aldo, at age 18, traveled through the Brazilian wilderness to primitive communities still without utilities representing the Coleman Lamp & Stove Company. In 1949 he came to U.S. as a foreign student and in the early 50's explored Mexico's Sierra Madre, built "Exploraciones Sonora," founded "La Verdecita" (a copper mine), and purchased one of the oldest gold mines in Durango (the one that gave inspiration for the classic film "Treasure of Sierra Madre"). Finally, Aldo sold his interest in the Mexican company to ALCOA and returned to Europe to make film documentaries.
